Congratulations to Musa Kabiri for winning The University of Greenwich's Netforce 2 Competition!
Musa recieved specialist one to one coaching sessions with Striding Out coaches Roy Casella, Elaine Owen, Heather Black and a customised 'Pitching' workshop just before he pitched his idea to the judges. Musa said:

"Winning the competition has been a huge honour. I have never really won anything substantial before and knowing that a group of prefessionals believe that our product and our business has real market potential is truly amazing. Being the winner of the competetion has opened many doors for us; a lot more people are taking us more seriously and we’re even in talks with potential investors. Winning this competition has made us one step closer to achieving our dream of starting this business."

Striding Out Support One Billion Rising

On 14th February 2013, Striding Out supported Women In Business to host an event at Vale House Vale Park Bandstand to demand an end to violence towards women. Women In Business, Striding Out & friends, WALK OUT, DANCED & ROSE UP!

Ellen Kerr, Director of Women In Business said ‘The afternoon teas in Vale Cafe were delicious and a big thanks to the staff of Vale House, Designated Associates and Striding Out who made this event such a success with their hard work and great choice of boogie music’.

Over £100 was raised in for the One Billion Rising campaign. Pictures can be found on the Women In Business website

The campaign was mentioned on Channel 4 news - to be a part of such a worthy cause was brilliant.

On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14.02.2013, Women In Business & Striding Out are are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

What does ONE BILLION look like? On February 14th, 2013, it will look like a REVOLUTION.

ONE BILLION RISING IS:

A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being

We supply help with funding and work with our partner to provide coaching for the young people throughout the course of their project.

About

The Aspire to Lead course is designed for new and aspiring team leaders aged 20 and above, and provides an in-depth introduction to the role and responsibilities of a team leader.

The programme will give you skills and knowledge in the following areas:-

The core skills to lead a team successfully
Motivation techniques to get the best from people
The confidence to tackle difficult issues, like underperformance
Tools to develop as a leader

When

The course begins on Monday 19th November between 10.30am -3.00pm and will be delivered two days a week for four weeks.

The program consists of a half day induction session, 9.5 day course and 2hrs of one to one mentoring, to help you achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading, accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management. www.i-l-m.com

Delivery Team

The course is being delivered by professionally qualified coaches who also have substantial experience as team leaders. Their approach is to make the course practical, fun, and engaging.

Expectations of Participants

All participants need to be committed to achieving the qualification. This requires full attendance on the

training and tutorial sessions and completion of a workbook of reflective activities to complete the necessary assignments to achieve the qualification.

Eligibility to Attend

This course is open and free to individuals who meet ALL of the following eligibility criteria. Please note a copy of necessary evidence will be required on the day by the trainers.

Aged 20 or above
Resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years (evidence: can include a UK birth certificate or British passport with a relevant residents permit if necessary)
Unemployed and claiming Job Seekers Allowance (evidence: A letter from your JCP adviser will be required to demonstrate you are currently claiming Job Seekers Allowance)
Not currently participating in any other training course.

New Management at Striding Out

We are delighted to announce that Elaine Owen has taken on the role as the new CEO at Striding Out CIC, as of the 1st October 2012.

Elaine will be supported by her dedicated delivery and support team to continue Striding Out's coaching and training services on a national scale to help individual's stride out to success.

Elaine takes over from Heather Black (nee Wilkinson), who founded Striding Out CIC in 2005. Since it's launch the organisation has helped over 13,000 individuals, especially young people aged 18-30, develop new confidence and skills, delivering over £2.5m worth of contracts for education, third and public sector organisations across the UK.

Heather Black has now taken on the role of spinning out Economic Change as a seperate CIC, previously operating as the consultancy arm of Striding Out CIC. Economic Change specialises in delivering consultancy support in the areas of business strategy, social impact measurement and implementation of salesforce operational systems. About Elaine Owen

Elaine Owen is a multi award winning entrepreneur, coach mentor and business consultant with a very strong passion and an impressive track record of managing and delivering hiqh quality coaching and training services. She has run a commercial B2B training and coaching company for the last 18 years, and Striding Out will be the social enterprise that complements her existing organisation, with a focus on supporting young people and disadvantaged groups to achieve success.

She has a passion for doing good whilst doing good business and is a technical expert in digital marketing & learning and development, working with leading organisation's including Google.

Elaine regularly writes for The Edge business magazine. She is a business panel expert for BBC Radio Merseyside and Elaine has been the subject of two television business documentaries.
