Ben Keene, co-founded Tribewanted
Tribewanted is a global project which aims to bring 5000 people together to develop a Sustainable community on an island in Fiji. Bringing together a social online community and a real life island experience.
The idea was created by Mark Bowness and he approached Ben Keene to help him realise it. In doing so they launched a Worldwide business with a 200 acre island in Fiji and over 1300 people signed up from over 27 Countries. Tribewanted was filmed during it’s initial 18 months and received a prime time commission from BBC2 for a programme called ‘Paradise or Bust’. A book has also been published entitled ‘tribewanted’ through International publishing company, Random House. Mark has gone on to win a Channel 4 4Talent Award, and shortlisted in The Observer’s Future 500. Tribewanted has won numerous awards including the DADI Grandprix award and Most Innovative Project; and it beat MySpace and E4 to win Best Social Network at Broadcast Digital Media Awards 2008. I have been a member of Striding Out since starting the project and I joined the network to connect with like-minded people. The focus for me has been to increase my knowledge of Social and Ethical Responsibility issues. As a result of connecting with other Striding Out members I have been able to understand these issues, find and secure experts from within the network and integrate their skills into my business. The Striding Out community has had a positive impact on the development of the business both whilst I was in the UK and overseas.
